I have the feeling that in the near future, getting computer parts and just electronics in general may become difficult or even impossible. Who knows exactly. But, I'm always trying to keep some older computers and laptops around for just this scenario. I never really liked working on laptops unless it was a basic repair such as the power plug or a bad fan. But, without a schematic for each laptop, and the fact that they are surface mount, I just didn't see repairing them as practical.
But, I discovered a youtube channel that really gets into the weeds on this and all of a sudden things are clicking for me. I can easily see how to trace and locate the power rails, bypass bad mosfets, fix broken hinges, etc. This guy, named Soren, is really good. He is a bit hard to understand, but well worth it once you get what he is saying.
The thing is, he fixes complicated problems very quickly and for no cost to him in most cases. This is because people with an old laptop that is worth $200, are simply not going to pay much for a repair. So his mindset is fast and cheap. And, I'm truly amazed at the things I have seen him do. Anyway, check it out, if you are into electronics at all, you can get something out of his videos.
Here is an example of one of his videos:
